Which battery should you shortlist?

Option 1

Century Marine Pro 780

N70ZM MF / 133102

Consider the 780 if its starting specifications meet your engine's requirements and its lower case height suits the compartment.

Option 2

Century Marine Pro 1000

86M MF / 135104

Consider the 1000 if the engine or installation calls for its higher starting ratings and the larger case can be secured correctly.

Century Marine Pro 780: The brochure gives starting and semi-cycling specifications. Check the engine maker's battery requirements and the actual tray, restraints and terminal orientation; engine horsepower alone is not a fitment approval. Check manufacturer details ↗

Century Marine Pro 1000: Marine Pro 1000 is the 86M MF model. The 1000 in its name refers to its CCA rating, not amp-hour capacity. Check the engine manual rather than treating generic horsepower marketing as fitment approval. Check manufacturer details ↗

The model number is not amp-hour capacity

The 780 and 1000 names align with their CCA figures. They do not mean one stores 780Ah and the other 1000Ah. In the cited range table, both have the same Ah and reserve-capacity entries.

That distinction matters when a boat owner wants to run accessories longer. A higher starting figure does not, by itself, solve an overnight energy requirement. Separate the engine-starting requirement from the house-load calculation.

More starting capability, more case clearance

The 1000 case is longer and has greater total height. Check the battery box lid, cable bend and restraint rather than treating the similar width as a promise of compatibility. A terminal close to a conductive lid is not a minor fit detail.

Use the current engine documentation to establish what ratings and battery type are required. Broad engine-size marketing cannot cover every model, temperature, starting arrangement or manufacturer condition.

When a different system is the better question

If the concern is avoiding a flat starting battery after running electronics, ask whether the accessory supply and starting reserve should be separated. Simply selecting the higher CCA number leaves the same underlying operating habit unchanged.

For either replacement, obtain a price that identifies the exact Century item number and what fitting includes. The manufacturer sources here do not provide a verified current retail price, so this page does not invent one.

Sources and comparison method

We matched the exact model codes to the manufacturer documents below on 2 October 2026. The selection advice is our interpretation of those specifications. We have not measured capacity, durability, waterproofing or service quality. We do not turn manufacturer cycle claims into a tested lifespan ranking.

Specifications, offers and warranty terms can change. Match the supplied unit to its current manual before purchase. Report a correction with the model code and source.
