Not by itself. What voids it is the charging arrangement — a lithium house bank on the engine's charging circuit without current limiting.

Engine charging-system limits

Engine charging and starting requirements vary by make, model and installation. Obtain the current engine manual and ask the supplier how the proposed lithium house bank affects the charging system before purchasing equipment.

Current-limited house battery charging

A correctly selected DC-DC charger can control the house-bank charging demand, but it does not automatically establish warranty approval. Confirm alternator capacity, input demand, control wiring and temperature behaviour for the actual system.

Starting battery specifications

Starting duty is separate from house-bank duty. Follow the engine maker’s specified chemistry and cranking ratings. A lithium house battery should not be used for starting simply because its amp-hour capacity looks sufficient.

Obtain model-specific written advice

Keep written model-specific advice with the installation records. If equipment, wiring or use changes, check whether that advice still applies. Avoid relying on another owner’s arrangement as evidence for your engine.

Related installation planning resources

Use these notes to prepare your own measurements and questions. Check the exact equipment manuals and have the proposed system assessed for your vessel before buying or changing electrical components.

Calculate your boat battery capacity

The house bank calculator takes your loads, your nights on the hook, your solar and your alternator, and returns the bank, the DC-DC charger, the AGM equivalent and the weight you take off the boat.

Take the load estimate, charging sources and cable runs to a qualified marine electrician. Our installation guide helps you ask about isolation, over-current protection, ventilation and compliance before work begins.
